Your questions, answered honestly.
We know that deciding to invest in yourself can come with a lot of questions.
Here are the ones we hear most often — answered with the same directness and warmth you’ll find in everything we do.
Who is CV Collective for?
1
CV Collective is for every woman who is ready to back herself. We work with women at every career stage: graduates just starting out, professionals going for their next role, women making a career change, and women returning to the workplace after a career break for family or caring responsibilities. If you have ambition and a story to tell — and you do - we are here for you.
How do I explain a career break on my CV?
2
You own it - and you do it with confidence. A career break taken for family or caring responsibilities is not a weakness. It is a life decision that most employers respect, and for the ones who don’t, you probably don’t want to work for them anyway. The skill is in how you frame what you did during that time — what you continued to use, what you developed, and how it connects to where you’re headed next. This is one of our specialities.
I’ve been managing a home and family. Does that count as experience?
3
Without question. Running a household is one of the most demanding management roles in existence. Budget management, logistics, scheduling, negotiation, crisis management, long-term planning, people leadership - if you’ve been doing those things at home, you have been doing them at a professional level. We know how to translate that experience into language that employers immediately recognise and value.
I’m just starting out. Do I have enough for a strong CV?
4
Yes - more than enough. Every woman starting out brings more than she realises. Your degree, any part-time or voluntary work, your projects, placements, personal skills, and the unique perspective you bring to everything you do — it all counts. We are skilled at finding the story in early-career experience and presenting it in a way that makes the right employers take notice.
What if I’m changing careers entirely?
5
Career changes are one of our absolute strengths. The women who come to us having decided to pivot are often the most motivated and self-aware candidates we work with. We find the transferable skills and experiences that connect where you’ve been with where you want to go, and we build a personal marketing strategy around that thread. It’s not just possible - it’s an incredibly powerful story when it’s told well.
Will my CV get through ATS screening systems?
6
Yes. ATS optimisation is built into every single package. We research the specific keywords, formatting requirements, and structural preferences for your target roles and sectors. Every CV comes with a full ATS audit report so you can see exactly how it will perform before you apply.
How long does the whole process take?
7
From your discovery call to your completed CV: 5 working days for the Essential package, 7 for Comeback and the Public Sector Application package, and 10 for Executive Comeback. If you need it sooner, rush delivery in 48 hours is available on request.
What if I haven’t worked in a few years?
8
We work confidently with clients who have been out of the formal workplace for a number of years and we want you to know that a longer break does not mean a weaker application. It often means the opposite. The experience, resilience, and capability built during an extended career break can be extraordinary. We know how to surface it and present it in a way that resonates powerfully with today’s employers.
Can I speak to you before I decide?
9
Absolutely - and we encourage it. Book a free 15-minute call and Gail will listen to where you are, answer your questions honestly, and help you choose the right next step. There is no hard sell and no pressure. Just a warm, direct conversation with someone who genuinely wants to help you get where you’re going.
